Could Astrology Help You to Become More Fit?

When people think of astrology, they usually stop at their horoscope—but astrology is far more detailed than most people realize. Instead of just your Sun sign, astrology uses something called a natal chart to give a deeper understanding of who you are.

A natal chart is created using your date of birth, your exact time of birth (this is highly important—but if it’s unknown, you can use 12:00 PM), and the city where you were born. Once you plug this information into tools like Astroseek.com or the Chani app, you get a snapshot of the sky at the exact moment you were born, including where all the planets were positioned.

You might be a Libra, but your Libra Sun could sit in your 10th house of career, suggesting you shine in public-facing roles related to balance, justice, or law. Or, if you’re a Capricorn rising (like me), you might come across as serious, composed, and naturally aligned with business or financial success.

For now, I’m going to focus on one part of the chart to keep things simple.

Speed Lesson

In astrology, there are three main components: the zodiac sign, the house, and the planet.

Think of the houses as the foundation—there are 12 of them, each representing a different area of life, like career, finances, health, travel, and even appearance. Everyone has all 12 houses, but the way planets fall into them varies from person to person.

For example, you and your cousin might both be Geminis—but if your Sun is in the 5th house, you might be more creative and playful, while your cousin’s 6th house Gemini Sun might make them more organized and focused on improving systems.

Then we add the planets, each with its own personality. Planets influence how energy shows up in your life by interacting with both the sign and the house they’re in, as well as with other planets in your chart.

For example:

  • Jupiter represents luck and expansion

  • Venus rules beauty and attraction

  • Mercury governs communication

There’s a lot more depth to each planet, but today we’re focusing on Mars.

Mars & Movement

Mars is associated with fire energy and is traditionally linked to Aries and Scorpio. It represents action, motivation, physical energy, and drive—basically, how you get things done.

When Mars is in fire signs like Aries, Leo, or Sagittarius, that energy tends to flow more naturally and express itself more boldly.

So let’s get into it.

I’ll use my chart as an example. My Mars is in Leo—bold, expressive, and enthusiastic. I’m not going to focus too much on the house placement today, just the sign.

Did I get this list from TikTok? Yes…yes I did.

My Experience

As a Mars in Leo, I’ve realized I thrive in environments where there’s energy, creativity, and other people involved—like group fitness classes, dancing, or competitive sports.

Before and during the pandemic, I used to take Zumba classes almost every Saturday. When I stayed home, I did online Xtreme Hip Hop step classes. Within a few months, I lost about 30 pounds.

Then life happened—and I gained the weight back, plus more.

I tried going to the gym, but working out alone on machines felt pointless. I needed energy to feed off of. Now that I’m trying to get back into a routine, I know my apartment gym isn’t enough—I need something more engaging to stay consistent.

Out of curiosity, I also looked into Mars-ruled signs like Aries and Scorpio. High-intensity workouts and emotionally driven movement (like HIIT or boxing) also seem like they’d work well for me.

Pairing these workouts with wellness practices—like saunas, deep tissue massages, skincare, tea, and a balanced diet—feels like the best approach.

Astrology Dishes

Your natal chart can even guide how you approach food.

As someone with an Earth-dominant Big 3 (Sun, Moon, and Rising), I benefit from foods that are grounding, comforting, and supportive of digestion—along with a consistent routine.

  • Taurus placements crave quality and comfort. Cooking at home with rich but wholesome foods—like roasted vegetables, simple starches, and dairy alternatives—can feel more satisfying than fast food. But moderation is key, since too much indulgence can lead to sluggishness.

  • Virgo placements are often sensitive to digestion. Lighter meals, high-fiber foods, fermented options, and herbal teas can help maintain gut balance.

  • Capricorn rising thrives on structure. Meal prepping and having go-to meals makes it easier to stay consistent throughout the week.

Your natal chart is deeply personal, with even more layers to explore.
So the next time someone asks how you’ve been staying in shape, you can just say—it was written in the stars.
(And of course, always consult a professional before starting any new diet or fitness routine.)
