From rising grocery and gas prices to ongoing debates over education, public benefits, and the widening wealth gap, millions of Americans are asking themselves an increasingly difficult question:
What would life look like if even a fraction of the world's greatest fortunes were used to improve the lives of everyday people?
Recent headlines surrounding Elon Musk's immense wealth reignited that conversation. While many argue that how much money someone earns is entirely their business, I found myself thinking about something different: what even a tiny fraction of an extraordinary fortune could accomplish. It could help strengthen struggling communities, improve access to education and healthcare, address homelessness, and provide opportunities for millions of people—not only in the United States but around the world.
The debate over wealth, taxation, and personal responsibility will likely never be settled. This article is not to condemn Elon Musk or judge his character. Instead, it's an opportunity to explore a different question:
What would I do if I had that level of wealth?
Rather than focusing on what someone else should do, I wanted to imagine how I would approach philanthropy, investment, and creating long-term change if I had the resources to make an extraordinary impact.
